A power-efficient Home Server
I've been using my Synology NAS for a few years now. When I bought it, I made the mistake of buying the model without docker support, and while Synology supports a few applications in the DSM app store, a lot of the ones that I want to use are not available. I've found a community repo called SynoCommunity which has a few interesting applications like Gitea and HomeAssistant. Unfortuately and understandably, the update cycles are infrequent and a lot of applications are still missing.
Plus, at the end of the day the Synology is a NAS, not a home server, and a proprietary one. I was lucky to find Wolfgang's channel and started binging his videos on power-efficient home servers (being the german that I am).
At some point, I decided to go for it and started ordering parts. I've never ordered from AliExpress and I'm still a little unsure if everything will go fine, but the parcel with the motherboard is already in Germany and is due for delivery tomorrow.
I've also ordered a PSU (Corsair RM550X) from kleinanzeigen, a Case (Fractal Node 304) from proshop and RAM and a small SSD from Alternate.
These things should arrive in a few days, so maybe I can start building this weekend.
