Fairphone 4

I’ve been thinking about getting a Fairphone since Version 2, but holding off because my current phone was still fine and the price scared me off a little.

Today, I decided to do it. I got the Fairphone 4, which seems to be the phone of my dreams, for a couple of reasons:

  • It is tinkerer friendly, which means, unlocking and rooting the phone is pretty easy. You’ll find instructions in the official community forum, which to my knowledge no other vendor does.
  • They actively support alternative OS developers like Calyx OS, which they send a testing device to help with development.
  • You can open it, take it apart, change the battery, the USB jack, even the display – which is to say, replace the pieces that will break sooner or later.
  • You can upgrade the camera if there is a new, better one in the future. The company already did this with the camera of the Fairphone 3 and 3+.

Well, that’s it for now. Bravo is all I can say. 👏 I wish this company a long and sustainable life, the people behind it make me happy.

We can’t go on like before, buying throw-away phones every year, wasting so much resources in the process. Resources, that would be better used elsewhere.
