Khichadi

Ingredients

  • Rice 50 gram
  • Red daal 100 gram
  • Fenugreek seeds 10 pieces
  • Garlic, finely cut 2 piece
  • Onion, cut in rings 1 piece
  • Ajowan 20 seeds
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Curcuma 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander 2/3 teaspoon
  • Cumin 2/3 teaspoon
  • Carrot, diced 1 piece
  • Potato, diced 2 - 3 piece
  • Peas, frozen 50 gram

Process

  • Wash rice and daal and soak in water
  • Heat up the pressure cooker
  • Add oil to the hot pressure cooker, let it also heat up
  • Once the oil is hot, add the fenugreek seeds, wait for a few seconds, then turn the heat down to medium
  • Add garlic, onion and ajowan
  • Add salt and curcuma powder
  • Once the onions start turning transparent, add cumin and coriander powder
  • After about 1 minute, add carrot, potato, peas
  • Let everything cook for 5 minutes
  • Now add the rice and daal
  • Also add about 150 ml water
  • Close the pressure cooker, let it whistle twice
